Surf Fishing Club open day

.

Ōpōtiki Surf Fishing Club is holding an open day on Saturday for prospective surfcasters.

Anyone interested in learning about surfcasting and meeting new and existing members is invited to the open day at 14 Parauta Road, Otara, Ōpōtiki, beginning at 9am.

Everyone is welcome – look for the flag outside.

Activities will include a meet and greet, demonstrations of traces and rigs, discussions and recommendations about bait, a sausage sizzle and perhaps even the sharing of fisherman secrets such as favourite fishing spots.

For anyone who is keen, the plan is to then head to the beach for some fishing.

The club weigh-in will follow as usual on Sunday morning at 10am with fishy photos, a social gathering at the Parauta Road Clubhouse and a few spot prizes for top-of-category fish.

Ōpōtiki Surf Fishing Club is a small, family friendly club, running monthly surf fishing competitions in the Ōpōtiki area.

It has a long history having started in the 1950s.

Members range in age from children to retirees.

The club holds monthly club events, interclub fishing competitions and a Christmas hams fishing competition for members.
