Letters: Peace is short lived

Congratulations to those who had a hand in the quiet we enjoyed recently; this includes the riders of the bikes they choose to make such a noise on.

Our street, an extension of Awatapu Drive, had been almost serene, until Tuesday last week when it started again. The peace and quiet we had for those few short days shows that it can be done.

We did have a couple of noisy bikes up and down the street during the day, but on Tuesday night there was one bike that was going to the end of the street turning around and going back again.

The reason we have been given, that these riders need some place to go, is a fob-off.

Can anyone who is doing this give us the real reason?

Given the noise the bikes make, it seems to be about annoying people. Some of these bikes would not be suitable for off-road use but are used just to make noise.

Is there someone in the street these riders hate and want to annoy?

Or do they hate everybody in the street?

I can hear them going all over town, so do they want to annoy everyone? Given the lack of explanation, we have to assume they want to be noticed, except they cover their faces, or come and go so fast, all we can do is hear them.

So, they want to be heard, to make a statement.

From what I know of life, we all want to be valued, to have something to be pleased with ourselves about.

Is annoying those around you something to be pleased about?

I know there is a big background story here that is festering, however, most people bearing the brunt of these noisy escapades have little chance of making any difference and just want a peaceful life.

Why disrupt our peaceful life? Because you are not satisfied with your life and don’t want others to be in that space either?

Where does this lead us; where does that lead you?

Spending your life disrupting someone else’s life seems to be a wasteful and angry way to live, and you get only one life.

More police and government action is not the answer. But if that is all that is available, so be it.

New Zealand is a great place; just look around the world. But unless we get on top of this “us and them”, whoever us and them are, we are heading for what the rest of the world have.
