ŌPŌTIKI Arts is planning an exhibition focused on carving and cutting for April.
Chairwoman Dot Wilson said the April 12 to 26 exhibition would be the first of the year for Ōpōtiki Arts.
Called “Cut it, CARVE it,” the exhibition will have an emphasis on carving, be it in timber, leather, clay or any other material.
Mrs Wilson said it would be suitable for all aspiring carvers.
“However, to allow diversity, we have added cutting as well – anything that constitutes a material that has been cut to create the art form,” Mrs Wilson said.
“This could be paper, card, tin, plastic or any other suitable material.”
The artwork did not need to be three-dimensional, but it could be an image produced by lino or wood cut, etching or similar.
“So there’s a lot iof scope to think and play with to produce some original works.”
Mrs Wilson said she was fortunate enought to have been taught Maori carving by Te Hau “Ching” Tutua many years ago.
“I was also mentored by Arnold Manaaki Wilson – both were family,” she said.
