I am astonished to hear the district council’s response via the “ports manager” to an enquiry about the Evelyn J working up the river."
The work is seemingly about ‘building a clearer picture of the navigational channel dimensions”; and it is “not connected with the marina development”.
Does this mean to say that $4.2 million down the track and counting, the district and/or regional council still do not have a clear picture of the navigational channel dimensions.
If this is the case, how have the plans for dredging the kilometres of pathway to the proposed harbour been arrived at up to this date? How have models already been made and presented to us about the tidal flows, sand movements, etc? Or have these models all been based on an “insufficiently clear picture of the dimensions” of our river?
This is more cause for concern about the viability of this project. I would like a clearer picture of the dimensions of the money channel right now, not those of the river.
