Artists look forward to a fruitful year

ŌPŌTIKI Arts is holding a five-week children’s pottery class at the Ōpōtiki Arts Hall in King Street, starting next month.

Chairwoman Dot Wilson said with a grant from Creative New Zealand, they had engaged professional potter Yvette van Raders as the tutor. The cost of clay and toolkits would be covered, with a small fee for the kiln firing.

Classes start on February 17 and are open to children aged from seven to 12.

Ms Wilson said the Ōpōtiki Arts committee had exhibitions, art, pottery and other classes planned for 2025.

CARVING ART: Marie Cass puts her attention into an artwork. 

The Nga Toi Wairua, Soulful Artists exhibition is scheduled for February 21 to 23 with all artists welcome to exhibit. To register, contact Peter Conolly at [email protected].

At the same time, there will be a market in the Ōpōtiki Arts carpark.

On March 8 to 9, Jo Chester will hold a drawing workshop.

Mrs Wilson said the Art Society had many new subscribers who were receiving newsletters.

“We are looking forward to a really good year,” she said.

Ōpōtiki Arts will hold their first exhibition of 2025 from April 12 through to Anzac Day.

The exhibition, titled Cut it, CARVE IT, will feature carving into clay and wood as well as lino and wood cuts – any medium involving the art of cutting or carving.
