UNDER THE STARS: Cosying up beneath the stars to watch a movie is an Ōpōtiki tradition.

Originally scheduled for December 30, Ōpōtiki’s Summer Movie Night was held on Monday evening after it was postponed due to bad weather.
Ōpōtiki isite manager Joseph Hayes said the evening was a success.
“It went really well last night,” he said.
“The night before was freezing, but it wasn’t too cold on the movie night, so we were quite lucky.
“For a postponed event, it can be tricky, but we had a nice clear night and we had a lot of people turn out for the movie, which was really cool.”
A Taranaki-based comedy drama called The Mountain was shown on the night and Mr Hayes said the film had “Boy-style humour and vibe”.
“It was quite a cool film and it was well received by the crowd,” he said.
Mr Hayes said two food trucks supported the event.
“We had Koastie Kones – they do real fruit icecream – and he said he sold more than 100 icecreams,” he said.
Tāhu offered “all sorts of treats”.
“They had popcorn in different flavours, fudge, toffee apples, nachos and more,” Mr Hayes said.
Tomorrow, starting at 10am and going to 2pm, the Beach Bash will be held at Waiotahe Beach.
“We are combining our favourite beach events to make a fun day out for the whole family,” Mr Hayes said.
“There will be a sand sculpting contest, race the tide, a beach dig with the inclusion of a beach dig for adults this year, a multi event involving buckets and flag races.”
