Busy day for offending

Monday was a busy day for police in Whakatāne, with multiple crimes reported including two retail break ins on The Strand.

In the early hours of the morning, the front door of a business was smashed and pried open, but offenders could not get past the security screen.

At a similar time, a business further down the road was burgled after an offender kicked in the glass front door.

Nothing was left out in the store overnight, so no items were stolen.

Between 12pm and 5.30pm on the same day a Specialized branded Rockhopper Expert mountain bike was reported stolen from outside Whakatāne Fishing Club.

The bike was grey and orange in colour and locked to a pole.

On Eivers Road, a silver 2008 Mazda Demio was reported stolen.

Police believe the vehicle was used in ram raids and it was located on Watarawi Place the following day.

An Australian passport was stolen from a vehicle parked at Maraetotara Reserve, and a califont gas box was reported stolen from a property on Horrocks Avenue.
