FICTION enabling people to travel to other places takes on a literal meaning as this year’s Quota Bookfest is helping to raise funds for a Thornton Park vehicle.
The Bookfest opened yesterday at the King Street art hall and runs until January 10.
Quota Ōpōtiki secretary Juliet Spence said this year the focus was to financially support the Thornton Park Fund, which aimed to purchase a vehicle for transporting residents for outings and to appointments.
“The vehicle will remain in trust for the residents as Thornton Park is privately owned,” Ms Spence said.
“Many of the elderly residents of Thornton Park have made posters promoting the Bookfest and these are set up around the walls of the hall.”
Ms Spence said volunteers from the Thornton Park Fund would assist the Quota members during the Bookfest.
Bookfest spokeswoman Florence Craig said there were heaps of novels at this year’s Bookfest.
“There’s something for everyone,” she said.
“This is the 34thyear we are running the bookfest.”
