The Whakatāne African Heritage Group is holding its Christmas 2024 Party this weekend.

This is the second Christmas gathering they are holding following the success of the inaugural luncheon held last year.

Anyone with African heritage is encouraged to come along to the event – to be held from 1pm-5pm in the Multicultural Room at Whakatāne Intermediate School this Sunday.

The Whakatāne African Heritage Group, founded by Paul Okwara, who is from Nigeria, falls under the umbrella of the of the wider Ubuntu African Society.

People of African Heritage Whakatāne keep in touch via a WhatsApp group.

Last December, more than 50 Eastern Bay people from across the African continent gathered to enjoy a spectacular lunch of traditional dishes.

This year, the event is funded by Lottery Bay of Plenty and Gisborne funders.
