Plant enthusiasts are in for a treat this Sunday as the Eastern Bay of Plenty Bromeliad and Orchid Group hosts its first public sale in Whakatāne.
The event will feature a stunning array of bromeliads, orchids, and other plants.
“This is the first time we are holding a public sale,” said member Carol Gee.
“There will mostly be bromeliads and orchids, but we will also have other plants for sale,” said group member Wendy Kingsbury.
Bromeliads are beautiful air plants that come in a variety of colours, and they make a striking addition to any garden. They thrive in shaded areas, with some sunlight, and are not too fond of the cold.
Ms Kingsbury and Ms Gee said the plant group had been around 20-plus years.
“There are 75 members of the group: “We usually get between 25 and 35 people at a meeting,” said Ms Gee.
The group meets monthly, with a winter schedule that includes guest speakers at the Scout Hall, and summer outings to visit gardens throughout the Bay of Plenty.
“It’s definitely an addiction,” said Ms Kingsbury about her passion for these plants. “I started by buying some plants without knowing much about them, but now I’m more knowledgeable and a little more selective about what I collect.”
The sale will take place on Sunday, December 1, from 8am to 12pm at 3 Douglas Street, Whakatāne, with parking available on the street.
It’s the perfect opportunity for plant lovers to find great bargains on these eye-catching plants, which can often be costly at retail prices.
