This December, The Eastern Bay Community Foundation is spreading joy and warmth to seniors in the Eastern Bay of Plenty with a generous donation of $10,000 from Craigs Investment Partners as part of its annual Christmas Giving initiative.
The funds will be used to provide food parcels to support seniors aged 65+ who may be facing social isolation, health and mobility challenges, or financial difficulties.
The rising cost of living has left many seniors in the region struggling. Many report eating just once a day or not at all, with food insecurity becoming a significant concern. In response, the Eastern Bay Community Foundation is launching a one-off food parcel drop, which will be distributed to up to 120 seniors in need during the week of December 16 -20.
Each food parcel will include essential groceries and an information leaflet detailing local support services available to seniors, including:
“We are pleased to partner with local organizations like Waiariki Whānau Mentoring and Here to Help U,” said community foundation manager Angela Jackson.
“By providing these food parcels and connecting seniors with essential services, we hope to reduce isolation and improve the wellbeing of those who need it most during the holiday season.”
The food parcels will be delivered directly to recipients, and seniors who wish to receive a food parcel can easily refer themselves by calling the Here 2 Help U 0800 helpline.
How to access support:
· Call Here to Help U on 0800 568 273 to sign up to receive a free food parcel.
· Deadline for referrals: Friday, December 13.
· Deliveries will take place from December 16 to 20.
We encourage community members, clubs, and organisations to help spread the word about this valuable initiative. For more information or to refer someone in need, please contact Here 2 Help U at 0800 568 273.
