I am dismayed to read in the New Zealand Herald (November 20) that MPs on a parliamentary committee have asked the Government to consider changing a 2020 rule change that allowed polling day enrolments.
The article reported that about 110,000 people either enrolled or updated their enrolment details on election day, over 3 percent of the total vote cast.
What is the price of democracy? That number of people being able to exercise their right to vote is more important than a delay of a few days of a final result.
I would have thought any law change that made it easier for us to vote was positive for exercising our democratic rights.
