The public is invited to a serene evening of reflection and beautiful choral music at the Sacred Music Through the Ages concert on November 23.
This special event promises an uplifting experience, showcasing timeless sacred works performed by two choirs.
Choirmaster of the Musibae Sacrae Choir, Cameron Bhashkar, said the evening would be a journey through music history, featuring traditional choral pieces from composers spanning the centuries.
“We’ll present a selection of works from various composers, some dating back to the 1500s, alongside contemporary works,” he said.
The concert will feature a combined choir of about 25 voices, including 10 members from the Auckland Latin Mass Chaplaincy Choir, led by Peter Yung, who founded the choir in 2020.
Along with Bhashkar’s Musibae Sacrae Choir, which is celebrating its first anniversary, this will be a rich and harmonious performance.
The programme will include 21 hymns, covering a broad range of sacred music, from early polyphonic chant to more modern compositions. Notable works from William Byrd, Tomás Luis de Victoria, and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina will be featured.
The choir will perform in a variety of voices, including tenor, alto, and bass, with solo performances from several choir members.
In keeping with the contemplative nature of the event, the audience is asked to refrain from clapping during the performance. The concert is free to attend, although koha (donations) are welcome to support the choirs.
