Letter: Mayor should have final say

It was a very interesting article by Mayor Victor Luca in last Friday’s Beacon.

I was suprised to glean information that Auckland Mayor Brown has more power within council decision-making than any other mayor within New Zealand.

I always wondered how and why Mayor Brown seemed to dominate decision-making within Auckland City Council meetings.

With this new knowledge update, I believe that most of the voting public who take time to address controversial issues within out community should be able to talk to our local mayor, who would be aware of people’s concerns and be able to make the final decisions within the council on any spending of ratepayers’ money.

A chief executive should not have the final say in what’s what. After all, the people have voted in the mayor to make the right decisions and he is the one that the people approach with problems.

That is why it it is important to have an experienced and knowledgable mayor like the one we are fortunate to have now.
