AWAKERI School is celebrating another great Ag Day event, held under a bright spring sun last week.

The school field was packed with utes, pens and pets last Thursday as 120 students flocked with their animals to participate in the 91st annual Awakeri Ag Day.

This year, the school introduced a new dress-up category, offering an opportunity for creativity after the traditional events.

The category saw the likes of a pirate, the Grinch, perhaps Awakeri’s youngest policewoman and a couple of dalmatians take to the course.

Awakeri School principal Craig McDonald said it was a fantastic day that was made possible by sponsors, volunteers and judges.

He described the Ag Day as one of the school’s flagship events, that they were proud to continue hosting.

“We’re in the business of creating fond memories.”

The event was accompanied by the school’s indoor show, which saw the Awakeri Events Centre kitted out with students’ art, baking and decorative skills.

The Rangitaiki Plains Agricultural Club Group Championships (commonly known as Group Day) was held on Monday at Thornton School, which Awakeri and other Rangitaiki schools attended.
