Caci Whakatāne is bringing Hilary Barry to town next month for Lunch for a Cause, raising funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities New Zealand.

The “glamorous ladies’ luncheon” at the Whakatāne Golf Club on November 2 will include a two-course lunch, wine, an auction and silent auction, live music, goodie bags and spot prizes.

Caci owner Annemarie Gallagher said the cause was close to her heart with her family receiving help, housing and support from Ronald McDonald House Charities in 2012 when her then four-year-old son was fighting brain cancer.

“They were lifesaving for us as a family. It’s the kind of situation you are put into within minutes or hours. We were so frightened, and I don’t know Auckland, but [RMHC] are there to take care of you and keep the family together,” she said.

“When we finished, I started thinking how I could give back. I know it’s a cause close to other Whakatāne families, too.”

This is her first fundraising event in Whakatāne, but she has run several events previously with her former business in Rotorua.

“I felt like it was time to start doing a project in Whakatāne.”

She is very excited that Hilary has agreed to come and with a “very glam” theme some luxe outfits, tiaras even, are expected.

Caci is looking for businesses willing to donate auction items, for which all proceeds will go towards RMHC.

Individuals wanting to donate to the auction can contribute items to a community cellar, where a collection of smaller items will be auctioned off in a bundle.
