Athletics season gears up

.

WHAKATĀNE Athletics Club is set to kick off another action-packed season over the next two weeks, and athletes of all abilities are encouraged to get involved.

The senior section will start on Wednesday, October 16, at 5.45pm, with the children's section following on Tuesday, October 22, at 5.30pm.

Whether you're an experienced athlete or just keen to stay active, the club offers something for everyone.

This season, the senior men’s section on the track is shaping up to be highly competitive.

The rise in popularity and recent success has brought some notable athletes into the spotlight.

Max Green, known for his middle-and long-distance prowess, is expected to impress with his quick times. Joining him will be Liam Dooley and Oliver Ashburn, both of whom are also poised to make a strong showing.

With these top talents, the men’s races promise to be thrilling this year.

In the junior section, the spotlight will shine on Lara Barton, who won high jumping titles across the country last season.

Lara is set to return, continuing her incredible form and pushing the bar even higher as she aims to build on her success.

Her performances will undoubtedly inspire younger athletes and make her one to watch throughout the season.

However, the club is short of volunteers to help with the running of events, and organisers are calling on the community to lend a hand.

If you're able to assist at one of the club nights, club president Willie Doney is asking for people to get in touch.

“We rely on the community to help ensure everything runs smoothly, and we’re really in need of more volunteers this year.

It’s a great way to get involved, even if you’re not competing,” said Doney.

For more information about the season, including how to volunteer or participate, visit the club’s website at www.wahc.com, or check out their Facebook page for regular updates.
