AN ŌPŌTIKI woman is hoping to put pressure on Waka Kotahi – the New Zealand Transport Agency – to reduce the risk of accidents on State Highway 2 in the Appleton Road to Paerata Ridge Road area.
A resident of Paerata Ridge Road, Leora Ansell, pictured left with Rod Williams, has collected 217 signatures to her petition, which she plans to present to Minister of Transport Simeon Brown and other key people.
Ms Ansell wants a flush median put in, saying there are remnants of old lines that prevent overtaking in one direction at the intersection between SH2 and Paerata Ridge Road.
“Everybody I have spoken with have signed the petition,” she said.
“Roading companies, transport companies, kiwifruit companies all agree it’s dangerous.”
To support her case, Ms Ansell is also hoping to get data on crashes that have occurred in the area.
