A GROUP of Trident High School sporting females have won virtually everything thrown at them in 2024.

Whether it is on the basketball court or netball court, the tight-knit group have excelled, producing quality performances across both sports.

The EBOP girls’ basketball season came to an end recently with Trident juniors playing Whakatāne High School juniors.

With only two junior girls’ teams in the competition, these teams played a couple of round-robin games with the senior teams before facing each other in the junior finals.

The Trident junior girls, most of whom are also part of the Trident Prem 3 netball team that performed well throughout the season, adapted quickly to the transfer of skills. They played consistently well throughout to defeat their crosstown rivals 26-10 to win the EBOP crown.

The team consists of Maia Withy, Marlie-Jay Bethell, Hunter-Lily Takiari, Queenie Rapana-Gray, Jolee Hutching, Te Wai Biddle and Rehia Amoroa.

The girls were well supported throughout the season by their whānau, Lisa Bethell, who took on the manager's role, and Tahu Wrathall, who stepped in to coach.

Coming off their victory in the junior girls’ competition, the basketball team, with the addition of Marino Amoroa-Spence and Kymani Pasikala, excelled to win the Division 2 Girls’ Bay Champs.

In pool play, they defeated Bethlehem and Ōtūmoetai, securing first place in their pool. In the crossover match, they played Aquinas College and won by 3 points.

If the two wins in basketball weren’t impressive enough, most of the girls also played in the Trident junior girls’ netball team and the WAIBOP Secondary School Netball Tournament held in Hamilton.

Following five impressive victories, they took the honours for this tournament thanks to their 18-11 victory over Hamilton Girls in the final.

Autumn Camburn played amazingly throughout and was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

Whether they are on the netball or basketball court, the girls are confident and focused – always keen to better they last effort. They work hard, get on well and always support each other.
