A Trident High School golf team drove, chipped and putted their way to an impressive victory recently.
The team of Sam Cornwall, Ben Hipkiss, Bayleigh Teepa-Tarau and Jayden Heiberg placed first overall with their combined stableford scores and outclassed some impressive opposition.

Te Puke is a challenging golf course at times so to go around there and come out as stableford winners was an impressive showing.

Bay of Plenty Secondary School competitive golf finished for the year recently at the Eagles Tournament at Te Puke Golf Club.
The Trident High School B team won the overall event with 137 combined stableford points.

There were 95 players entered across 24 teams from Tauranga, Taupo, Whakatāne, Rotorua and Ōpōtiki.

Trident High School teacher in charge of golf Phil Pickering was proud of the team and their efforts.

“Trident last won the event six years ago and the team's commitment to weekend playing in all conditions has been impressive for their commitment to golf.
This is the final school event for the year and a fantastic way to finish for both teams.”

Bayleigh Teepa-Tarau won the AIMS Games last year in what was his first proper golf tournament and now he has shown his talents with Trident High School by placing second overall for individual stableford points with 42.

The other players consisting of year 13 students, Leon Scholes, Joseph Bateson, Jake Finlay and Ollie Fort competed their 18 holes with competitive mid-field scores.

Pickering said they’d be sorely missed as this was their final school event.
Golf Bay of Plenty are planning more custom events for players in the future and the players remaining at school are looking forward to these new 9-hole and more accessible events for emerging players.

The team are looking forward to competing in local club events such as the Ōhope 10,000 over Labour Weekend and other club events in the summer.
Golf is a sport that continues to grow in the Eastern Bay of Plenty and with clubs such as Te Teko, Whakatāne, Kawerau, `Ōhope Beach Golf Links and `Ōpōtiki on the door steps, there’s plenty of variety for players new and old.
